Nikki Lock

Nikki is the owner and creator of Wild Roots Dance & Yoga based out of Victoria, BC. She found her passion for dance, movement and performance over 25 years ago. She has studied various disciplines of dance including Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Lyrical, Tap, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Contemporary, Strength and Conditioning & Burlesque. Training at many facilities throughout the world including The Canadian College of Performing Arts, The Royal Winnipeg School of Ballet and Casa Sangam in Italy, she has developed a extensive repertoire of techniques and styles. Nikki graduated from the Vancouver Island University with a Technical Theatre Diploma, the Canadian College of Performing Arts with a Performance Certificate and Camosun College with an Exercise & Wellness Diploma.

Nikki found her passion for teaching at an early age and has been sharing her joy of movement in any form with students for the past twenty years. Nikki has studied with RAD(Royal Academy of Dance) and CDTA(Canadian Dance Teachers Association). She is a member of the Canadian Dance Teacher’s Association in Ballet and Jazz and an associate member in Modern. She is also a certified Bellyfit® instructor and a facilitator of THEGROOVE™ and THEGROOVE™ for Kids. She is the Victoria ambassador for Rainbow Yoga and has completed the Rainbow Yoga-Kids and Families Instructor Training course. She has also completed the 360 hour Rainbow Yoga Teacher Training in Italy. She studied with Birthlight, certifying in Fertility Yoga, Pregnancy Yoga, Baby Yoga and Wise Women Yoga. While in Italy, she also completed training in Yoga in the classroom, Kids Yoga, Teen Yoga, Partner Yoga, Tantra, Senior Yoga and Yoga Therapy.

Nikki is a talented choreographer and loves to explore the connection of movement and sound. She has a passionate and contagious love for movement and she loves sharing it with others through her performances and classes! Her classes promote self love, positive body image and creative expression.

When Nikki is not in the studio, she loves to spend time with her family, sail around the beautiful islands surrounding Vancouver Island, climb cliffs, host gatherings in her home, explore the world, camp in her delica and dance barefoot any chance she gets...............

Eve

Instructor: Restorative Yoga & Sound Healing & Candlelight Flow Yoga

Eve has been practicing yoga for over 20 years and took her practice to the next level by completing her Yoga Teacher Training Program (RYT-200). From there, she has completed various other training programs to complement her yoga and aerial fitness classes. She completed her 300 hours Yoga Teacher Training in July 2020 and is designated as a RYT-500. She is currently a member of Yoga Alliance and also designated as a Continuing Education Provider (YACEP).

She aims to make her classes fresh, uplifting and fun for all levels. She is friendly, approachable and takes great care with creating a safe and comfortable environment for all her students. She loves sharing the joy of yoga and fitness with each and every student that she meets along the way.

She believes in yoga for life – taking every opportunity to weave the tools and practices of yoga that she has learned into her daily life. She is always looking for ways to deepen her practice and expand her study of yoga by continuously learning – not only from other teachers and colleagues, but also from students.

Talia

Instructor: Jazz/ Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Youth Yoga & Beginner Adult Dance

Talia started dancing at the age of 3 where her love and passion for dance grew from there. She dance competitively for 15 years. Her goal is to provide the space and care for students to feel free to express themselves in a safe and judgement free zone all while teaching the important foundations and techniques of dance.

Having been brought up doing lyrical, jazz, ballet and modern dancing, she is well versed in many styles and techniques and can adapt to the many challenges that may come her way. She has also taught Pilates and fitness classes for the past 5 years.

When you step into her class, you can expect a welcoming, caring, and loving atmosphere. She is a firm believer that we must first take care of ourselves in order to care for anyone else in our lives. When we allow ourselves to find what makes us feel strong and empowered, what lights our soul on fire, we are able to carry that out into the world and help support those around us.

Talia is always moving in and out of the studio from yoga, to fitness classes and salsa dancing. She looks forward to dancing with you!

Roxie

Instructor: Prenatal Yoga

Roxie was born in beautiful Victoria BC, and grew up between Victoria and the Okanagan. She found yoga well over a decade ago and it not only enriched her life but rejuvenated it. Roxie is a lifelong learner and loves to try new things and discover new places. She deeply cares for others and her community which gives her enthusiasm to share her passions and joy with others. 

Roxie’s teacher training journey began with Yin/Nidra Teacher Training through Yoga from the Heart by Nicole Schulz. She has completed her 250 hour Yoga Teacher Training through MokSana in Victoria. With a love for the yin-side, Roxie continued her Yin yoga studies with Bernie Clark and Diana Batts and is always diving deeper into the yin-side of things. Roxie mentored under Nikki Lock, of Wild Roots, paddling into the waters of Kids Yoga. Roxie has an ever growing passion for all stages of life, especially birth. Roxie is a certified Prenatal/Postnatal Yoga Instructor, Doula, and Prenatal/Postnatal Fitness Leader (PT and group). Pregnancy is a time to honour and nourish the body, mind and soul and her classes aim to do just that.

Whether it be Pre/postnatal, Hatha, Kids or Yin, Roxie's classes are designed around helping each individual feel welcome and comfortable. Roxie has a strong appreciation that people are all unique in biology and biography, therefore, her intention is to deliver classes that allow the practice to meet the student where they are.

In 2022, Roxie and her family welcomed their beautiful baby boy to the world! Roxie learned so much from her pregnancy and postpartum journey and continues to learn every day from the little one. Off the mat, she and her family love camping, travelling, and most of all spending time together and with their animals.

Theana

Instructor: Dance Sampler, Jazz & Hip Hop

Theana started dancing at the young age of three with the basics of ballet, jazz, and tap. She later carried on her training by dancing competitively for 9 years. She has also trained in musical theatre, lyrical, and hip hop. Upon graduation she knew that dance would become an important aspect in her career so she was fortunate enough to pursue training professionally in Toronto, Ontario at the Randolph Academy of the Performing Arts. 

Theana bring passion and dedication to her classes and students. She truly enjoys teaching students technique while providing a fun, safe learning environment for everyone to flourish and grow in. She is eagerly excited to bring her knowledge and experience to the young dance students at Wild Roots Dance and Yoga.

Janet

Instructor: Kids Circus Sampler, Creative Movement & Adult Intro to Hoopdance

Planet Janet is a dynamic circus artist and somatic coach who has been
performing and teaching youth and adults for over a decade. She is a gentle leader and playful person who loves supporting people in their
discovery of growth, movement and expression through the arts. She has performed in professional troupes and in her company Planet Janet Circus Entertainment. Janet's background includes creative and educational endeavours such as: theatre, dance and event production,
and degrees in child and youth care and horticultural therapy. The wellbeing and personal development of her students is at the heart of
how she approaches teaching, alongside the circus arts and creative movement skills.

She has taught for programs with ptarmigan arts, three on the tree production society, in schools as an ‘artist in the classroom’,assistant coach and choreographer with tsunami circus on Salt Spring
Island and through numerous community classes and workshops, including founding and directing the Pender Island Youth Talent show for five
years. Janet is certified as a ‘hoop love coach’ by the acclaimed hoop teacher training program of Deanne Love, and has attended as well as
co-coordinated hoop and flow arts retreats and workshops in Costa Rica and in Canada.
